Trauma Therapy

At the Association for Multicultural Behavioral Health, we provide compassionate, evidence-based trauma therapy for individuals who have experienced distressing, overwhelming, or life-changing events. Trauma may result from abuse, violence, accidents, medical experiences, loss, immigration-related stress, family conflict, workplace exposure, or repeated emotional injury over time. For some people, symptoms appear immediately; for others, trauma may surface years later through anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, sleep problems, emotional numbness, irritability, flashbacks, or feeling constantly “on guard.”

A Safe and Supportive Approach

Our therapists understand that trauma affects the mind, body, relationships, and sense of safety. We work at each client’s pace, creating a therapeutic environment where clients can feel respected, supported, and not judged. Treatment focuses on helping clients regain emotional stability, understand trauma responses, reduce distressing symptoms, and rebuild a stronger sense of control and self-trust.

Evidence-Based Trauma Treatment

Depending on the client’s needs, trauma therapy may include approaches such as EMDR, Brainspotting, somatic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, grounding skills, and trauma-informed psychotherapy. These methods can help the nervous system process painful experiences, reduce emotional reactivity, and support healing without forcing clients to relive every detail of what happened.

EMDR and Brainspotting

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based trauma therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories that may feel “stuck” or continue to trigger emotional and physical reactions. During EMDR, the therapist uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds, while the client focuses on selected memories, emotions, or body sensations. Over time, the memory may become less overwhelming, and the client may be able to relate to it with more distance, calm, and control.

Brainspotting is a trauma-focused therapy that works with the connection between eye position, the brain, and the body’s emotional processing system. The therapist helps the client identify a specific “brainspot,” or eye position, that appears connected to emotional distress, trauma, or body-based tension. By gently focusing on that spot in a safe therapeutic setting, clients may access and process experiences that are difficult to reach through traditional talk therapy alone.

Both EMDR and Brainspotting can be helpful for PTSD, complex trauma, childhood trauma, anxiety, grief, performance stress, and emotionally overwhelming life experiences. These approaches do not require clients to describe every detail of their trauma. Instead, they support the brain and nervous system in processing painful experiences in a structured, compassionate, and clinically guided way.

Restoring Safety and Resilience

The goal of trauma therapy is not only to reduce symptoms, but also to help clients reconnect with themselves, improve relationships, strengthen emotional resilience, and regain a sense of safety in their lives. With the right support, healing is possible. Clients do not have to carry the effects of trauma alone.
